Margarana
National Monument Park or it is also known as Puputan Margarana is a place that
has a tragic story long time ago. It is located in Kelaci Village, Marga
District, Tabanan Regency, Bali Province. The first time I know this place is
since I was in kindergarten. The location of this place is close to my village,
it just spend 12 minutes to reach the location. It is not too far, right? I
often spend my time in this place if I have free time, usually in the weekend.
I have spend my time here with my family and my friends. I feel comfortable
when I visit this place because the environment here are calm and fresh. By the
way, this place has a story. Did you ever hear a story of this place?
This
monument was built in 1954, eight years after the heroic event of Puputan
Margarana. The government gives the name this place as Taman Pahlawan Pujaan
Bangsa Margarana. During the Dutch colonial era, in this place happened a war
between the Dutch colonialists and Balinese people. The Balinese people was
lead by a leader namely I Gusti Ngurah Rai. At that time, the Balinese people
just use sharpened bamboo to against the dutch colonial. This monument become a
silent witness to the Puputan Margarana war on November 20, 1946. The monument
was built after the 8 years of the war.
This
monument was built with the concept of Tri Mandala, namely upstream, middle and
downstream. When you try to enter this park, you will see an inscription which
is contains the names of the heroes who
were buried in this place. Then, when entering the front (downstream), there is
a ceremonial court, and two resting halls for visitors who want to relax. In
the courtyard, we will also see the Panca Bakti Statue which is depicts the
unity and integrity of all the people in their struggle for the independence.
In
the upstream or north and northeast part of the park area of the Margarana,
there is the heroes park. It is in this section that you will find thousands of
small monuments (like gravestones) which are symbols of the heroes who died in
this Margarana war. It also includes a headstone for an unknown heroes.
