Toya Bubuh Temple is a temple which is located in Petiga Village, Marga District, Tabanan Regency, Bali Province. There are so many people that come to this temple because they believe this temple can cure diseases. Besides that, this temple also has natural view. When heading to the temple, we will walk for about 15 minutes to reach the temple. We will pass the stairs that descended. This temple has their own history.
Long
ago, there was a very poor village called Gumi Bangsule. The situation is very
poor. Endless drought hit the village for years. The disease epidemic was
rampant, grabbed a smile that never emerged from the lips of its inhabitants.
Shabby faces, covering the rural atmosphere that is far from the word
"beautiful". Agricultural land that was never flooded has now become
a dense chunk of neglect. The plants do not want to grow, as if they are
reluctant to provide a livelihood for the village of Gumi Bangsule. At one
point, Ida Betari Danuh heard the screams of suffering from the residents of
Bangsule village. Finally, he ask Ida Betara Manik Kumawang to help the village
by staying on Mount Beratan. Ida Betara Manik Kumawang also complied with the
order, and he went to Mount Beratan.
He
stayed in Mount Beratan for a long time, but it did not produce good results.
Gumi Bangsule Village remains in an endless circle of misery. Therefore, Ida
Betara Manik Kumawang performed meditation in the middle of Lake Beratan. He
floated on the lake water for several years to do meditation. However, the
meditation was interrupted by a very large and powerful fish. The fish is right
below Ida Betara Manik Kumawang, who meditates. Apparently, the fish also
performed meditation. Unfortunately, the meditation by the big fish made his
meditation a failure. Therefore, Ida Betara Manik Kumawang was angry. He then
issued a curse. Suddenly the sky was cloudy. Lightning strikes. A great flood,
also washed away all the inhabitants of Lake Beratan, including the big fish. The
fish was swept away by the river Yeh Sungi, to be precise in Alas Petiga, Gumi
Bangsule village. The ferocity of the flood killed the big fish. His body was
stranded on the banks of the river Yeh Sungi.
A
few days later, the corpse of the Big Fish gave off a terrible stench. The
stench reached Lake Beratan and again disturbed the concentration of Ida Betara
Manik Kumawang. He also looked for the origin of the stench. He walked through
the forest until he reached Alas Petiga. The stench was even sharper. Finally,
he found the corpse of the big fish lying on the bank of the river Yeh Sungi.
In order to destroy the stench generated by the corpse of the big fish, he
finally decided to melt his body.
Suddenly
a miracle happened, the Big Fish came back to life. Suddenly, Ida Betara Manik
Kumawang was surprised. The Big fish, then apologized to Ida Betara Manik
Kumawang for disturbing his meditation. In exchange, he was willing to
sacrifice himself and stay at the base of Petiga. He promised to prosper the
people of Gumi Bangsule. Ida Betara Manik Kumawang also accepted the Big Fish's
forgiveness. Then the Big Fish was transformed into a small fish with a long
body like an eel (also called “Be Julit”). The big fish, which had been
transformed, jumped onto a cliff. Not long after, an earthquake occurred. The
cliff, which had been solid, suddenly split in two and let out water. On that
cliff too, a small pond was formed which was the fish's place. Since that
incident, changes began to be felt in the village of Gumi Bangsule. Now, the
village is no longer destitute like it used to be, life has improved there. As
a token of gratitude to the Fish, the people of Gumi Bangsule promised not to
eat Julit fish. In addition, the people of Bangsule also make temple there. The
temple was later given the name Pura Toya Bubuh.
The
belief of the Gumi Bangsule, people now called Petiga village about the
prohibition of not eating Julit is still believe till nowadays. They believe that
anyone who eats Be Julit, especially the Petiga residents and those who have prayed
at Toya Bubuh Temple, will have scaly skin like fish.
